Summer Break — See You in September!
The 588 Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) is the local civilian partner for the Squadron responsible for coordinating the local support of the Squadron. It consists mainly of parents/guardians of Cadets enrolled in the Squadron. Every parent/guardian who has a Cadet in the program is automatically a member of the SSC. The SSC plays a vital role in the operation of the Squadron and is responsible for supporting the Squadron and the Cadets by:
Providing suitable locations cadet training and activities;
Running the Canteen during parade nights;
Promoting the cadet program to the public;
Recruiting new cadets;
Assisting with local and national scholarships;
Growth and development of squadron volunteers;
Renting, purchasing and maintaining band equipment; and,
Fundraising and management of funds for additional activities not supported financially by the Department of National Defence.
The 588 SSC is a registered charity and must annually elect an executive volunteer board of directors. The executive works in partnership with the military side of the squadron represented by the Commanding Officer.
Elections for the Executive Board of Directors are held on the first Thursday of June at 7 pm at the Squadron located at 1415 rue Filion, Saint-Laurent, QC. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to run for a director position and should contact the Chairperson by email (arifdewan2170@gmail.com) to register for upcoming elections.
The Executive Board of Directors meets monthly on the second Tuesday of the month from September to May. Meetings start at 7:00 pm and last 45 minutes to 1 hour. Parents who are not part of the executive board are welcome to attend the meeting as non-voting observers.
Our Squadron has been training youth aged 12 to 18 in the community of Ville Saint-Laurent since 1954. The cadets learn various about leadership, citizenship, instructional techniques, wilderness survival, aviation, and healthy living. They also have the opportunity to join more specialized groups such as our band, drill team and even the Flying Scholarship program where they can eventually become a pilot.
We do not charge registration or activities fees and are committed to ensuring that our training is both interesting and affordable for all youth in Ville Saint-Laurent. We truly believe that any youth who goes through our doors today has the potential become a leader of tomorrow. We would like to thank the following community supporters who have helped our Cadets through financial donations or other forms of direct support.
